In my previous post on mind maps, I missed the free one that looks the best from my quick use of it. That is FreeMind. It is java based multi-platform and has most all of the features needed for personal planning and smaller project work. Click on the screenshot for a larger view.

You can read about this and download your copy at their sourceforge website where they claim an average of 6000 downloads per day.

Also impressive to me is that it imports my Mindjet Mind Manager files. It doesn't import all of the formatting but gets the content.

If you have been thinking about trying maps, this is a great tool for you. Highly recommended.
